Service: An educational and enjoyable extracurricular activity which promotes student’s educational growth and community involvement through problem solving, creative thinking and community outreach projects.
Target Market: The workforce of the Liberty High Robotics Team is made up of Liberty High School students and faculty advisors, along with any willing mentors from the community and organizations sponsoring us. The funding market for the team is local businesses and grants, intended to keep the team local and advertise for local businesses in order to promote their community outreach programs.
Benefits Being Provided: The Liberty High Robotics Team provides students an opportunity to gain experience in the fields of engineering, business, communications, management and English. This is all done as an extracurricular activity, giving students a safe and educational place to go after school to nurture their interests. For sponsors, we provide a well established community program which encourages education and community involvement. We offer our sponsors to be on all our advertising (tee shirts, press releases, web site, the robot itself, etc) and will update them on the team status as we progress through the season. After the end of the competition, sponsors will receive a DVD of our accomplishments, a written notice of sponsorship and gratitude, a display certificate showing involvement, tee shirts, and a framed picture of the season’s team.
Competitive Advantage: At the moment, the team is the only one of its kind in Carroll County. This gives us an area of sponsorship and community that is local and all our own. To speak of competitive advantage in terms of FIRST is a dichotomy; FIRST encourages cooperation between all its teams. In this sense, we try to make our revenues in local areas without infringing about other teams already confirmed sponsors and places of interest. This allows us to have returning sponsors and an area of community involvement without real competition.
Distribution Channels: The team’s base source of revenue is corporate sponsorship and grants. This money is received through the efforts of team members to contact businesses, make a point of contact, inform the business of our goals and benefits, and follow through the sales procedure to ensure a donation. Grants are processed by team members, given to one of our Liberty High faculty members to sign and deliver, and then wait for notice of the grant status. In terms of product sales, namely Hex Bugs and candy used as fund raising items and promotional tools, we order them wholesale through suppliers, normally at a 50% of the selling price. Once the items are received, we market them at public events, within the school system, and outside of participating retailers. We also solicit donations at public events, with the donations counted at the end of the day and given to a supervising Liberty high Faculty Mentor to recount and give to the school.
